Michael’s COSMIC Bridge
“A close relative of mine has had a very bad battle with alcoholism. Given the effect it had on my family, I always thought “how can this person be so selfish?”.
After multiple spiritual experiences from praying in church to plant medicine ceremonies and meditation, I read Stan Grof’s book called “The COSMIC Game.” A lot of visions I’d had that were previously very confusing, started to make sense thanks to Grof’s book and also studying Carl Jung’s archetypes and the concept of the collective unconscious.
After finishing the book, so many things were running through my head that night and I couldn’t sleep. I felt a voice inside me saying “go walk”. I love walking but had never done it at 3am.
Before I knew it, I had walked 15 minutes towards Hammersmith Bridge, which I used to walk across to go to school.
There was a realisation that darkness and suffering were always going to exist but it was how we reacted to and confronted them that would define us.
The next day, I called the relative and said “I’m sorry for all my judgement. I know that you must be facing something tough which makes you drink. I will love you unconditionally despite that and will always be here. I am here to chat anytime.’’
From that moment, our relationship totally changed and I realised the power of the COSMIC bridge.
A voice deep inside me said you need to be a bridge for your relatives and others. You can provide the bridge, but the choice to cross it is theirs and you have to respect that.
It also told me that I needed to find my own Bridge to find light in the darkness, connect my profession with my passion, and my spiritual side with my daily life.
